Subject: rights and permissions From: "Joseph J. Esposito" <espositoj@xxxxxxx> Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 08:24:53 -0700 |
>It is my understanding that if an author who is the copyright holder gives us permission for a chapter of his or her book to be digitized for reserve for one course for one semester that should be sufficient permission. It is difficult to imagine a situation where an author controls these subsidiary rights unless a book is long out of print and the rights have reverted. An editor would likely get fired for not acquiring these rights. It is also difficult to imagine a situation where the author would not share in the permissions fees. Joe Joseph J.
