Subject: I-Movie from Yearbooks? From: <glennw@xxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 16:26:23 -0600 |
Hope you can help me. I received the following message from one of our member school districts. It's one I haven't heard before and am not sure how to respond. Maybe I'm making too much of a big deal out of this but I started thinking about the question from a couple of angles. FIrst, who DOES own copyright on school yearbooks? Do they ask for permission from students when placing images in yearbooks? Second, does the fact that the images are now in digital format change things? Are two permissions required? One form the yearbook copyright holder and one from the student in the image? Thanks for your help! "My question for you is about the copyright of school yearbooks. Our middle school music department is making an I-Movie that will be shown at a conference. Can they use pictures from yearbooks from our district without breaking copyright? Any information would be helpful." Glenn Wiebe Curriculum Specialist ESSDACK glennw@xxxxxxxxxxx
