Century?

Canadian librarians Marilyn Rennick (University of Ottawa) and Nancy
Brodie (Treasury Board of Canada) educate us about Canadian government
information issues, while Americans Susan Tulis (Southern Illinois
University) and Judy Russell (Government Printing Office) represent the
U.S. perspective. Lori Smith (Southern Louisiana University) joins the
discussion with her insights on tapping state government resources. Join
your hosts Lindsay Johnston (University of Alberta) and Cass Hartnett
(University of Washington) for a memorable cross-cultural dialogue.

Speaker Biographies:


Chuck Rosenberg, Counsel to the Director
Federal Bureau of Investigation
Chuck Rosenberg is Counsel to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III.
Rosenberg's work at the FBI focuses on counter-terrorism,
counterintelligence and national security matters.  Prior to joining the
FBI, Mr. Rosenberg was an Assistant United States Attorney in the
Eastern District of Virginia, in Norfolk and, subsequently, in
Alexandria, Virginia. There he prosecuted financial fraud crimes,
violent crimes, and espionage cases. During the last two years of his
tenure as a federal prosecutor in Alexandria, Mr. Rosenberg supervised
that office's Major Crimes Unit - the unit that prosecuted numerous
prominent spy cases and that is now prosecuting alleged 9/11 conspirator
Zacarias Moussaoui.  He is a graduate of Tufts University, Harvard
University and the University of Virginia.

George Radwanski
Privacy Commissioner of Canada
George Radwanski, the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, has had a
lifelong involvement in national affairs and major policy issues.  In
1985, Mr. Radwanski left a twenty-year career in journalism and was
appointed by then Ontario Premier David Peterson to head two major
policy studies of national importance : a study of the service sector
and the post-industrial economy, and a study of the elementary and high
school education system. He then became a public policy, strategy and
communications consultant, providing advice to the public and private
sectors. In 1996, at the request of the government of Canada, Mr.
Radwanski chaired the mandate review of Canada Post Corporation. Mr.
Radwanski was appointed interim Privacy Commissioner effective September
1, 2000. On October 19, following approval by Parliament, he was
appointed Privacy Commissioner of Canada for a seven-year term.  Mr.
Radwanski is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal with degrees in
political science and in law. 

John Barlow Weiner
Attorney, Ropes & Gray
John Barlow ("Barr") Weiner is an attorney with Ropes & Gray LLP in
Washington DC.  His practice addresses public international law,
including international trade law.  Barr's experience includes
representing clients in treaty negotiations and assisting clients to
promote their interests before United Nations' bodies and other
intergovernmental organizations.  Barr counsels clients on the rules of
the World Trade Organization, as well as regional trade agreements, and
advocates on behalf of clients, including before the Office of the
United States Trade Representative.  In addition, he counsels clients on
various aspects of the laws of the European Community ("EC"), and on EC
international negotiating policies and practices.  Prior to joining
Ropes & Gray, Barr was a fellow of the Center for International
Environmental Law in Geneva and then an associate of another Washington,
D.C. law firm.  Barr graduated from Princeton University with an AB, and
received his JD from Columbia University, graduating as a Stone
Scholar.
