Hello all,

For those of you who will be attending ALA, the ACRL Scholarly
Communications Discussion Group is sponsoring a session with the
speakers from the SPARC-ACRL Forum. (For details on the SPARC-ACRL
Forum, please see <http://www.arl.org/sparc/core/index.asp?page=f48>. )
It promises to be an interesting, wide-ranging discussion, and your
input at the session would be valued. Information follows.

We hope to see you there!

Best wishes,

Alison

Open Access: Getting from Here to There:
An ACRL Scholarly Communications Discussion Group session with
presenters from the SPARC/ACRL Forum

Open access to scholarly journals access that is free to readers is
a powerful concept that has ignited the imaginations of researchers,
librarians, administrators, and policy-makers. How will it work in
practice, and how will it address the challenges presented by
traditional publishing models based on subscription revenue?

Please join Joseph Branin, Dean of Libraries at Ohio State University;
Helen Doyle, Director of Development and Strategic Alliances for the
Public Library of Science; and Henry Hagedorn, Editor, Journal of
Insect Science, for candid and stimulating discussion of the
opportunities and challenges presented by this new publishing paradigm.
