The original subscribers to the digital-copyright list have been subscribed to the list in digest. If you do not want to receive the list mailings as "digest" you can use the subscription form to unsubscribe from the digest format and then subscribe for regular mail delivery. Each subscriber has the choice of signing up for just the regular list, the digest list, or even both. Click Here to change your list preference. ==================== How do I report technical problems? Click here and use the form to report any technical problems or contact the List-Owner. If that link does not work for you, copy and paste the following URL into your web browser: http://biglist.com/2BigList/help/listusers/ or digital-copyright-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx For help and a description of available commands, send a message to: digital-copyright-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx * Please check-back for updates to this section. ==================== Who joins the DIGITAL-COPYRIGHT listserv? The Digital Copyright Listserv aims to be a space for educators, policy makers, librarians, lawyers, and all who have a vested interest in digital copyright and other intellectual property matters of importance to the higher education community. ==================== Are there any list Submission Guidelines or list Netiquette? No more than most of the lists out there. It is our hope that these guidelines will aid in maintaining a professional and friendly atmosphere. It is likely that messages not following these guidelines will be returned to you for editing. 1. Indicate the nature of your message in the "subject" line of the header as precisely as possible. 2. Intros and lengthy signature files are discouraged. At the end of your message include your name, institutional affiliation (if any), and "snail mail" address. The data provided in the header is often cryptic, and this complete information helps to personalize the discussion and keep it a little more friendly. However, please avoid elaborate signature files with large graphics or lengthy quotations. 3. Always be civil, don't use profanity. Don't be lewd, abrasive, argumentative, or rude. 4. Don't post messages in HTML, binaries, or word-processing attachments. Encoded binaries (also known as UUENCODED files) and pictures are not permitted in most groups. Attached files in Word format (or excel, WordPerfect, etc) are also not permitted. This is one way that a virus could be transmitted. 5. Please be concise in your posts and do not submit extremely long messages to the list. You are reducing your chances of being read. If received, they will be returned to you for editing. 6. Be careful in your use of humor (and especially sarcasm) in your communication. E-mail is not face to face and your message may be interpreted in a way you may not have attended. The result may be the start of a flame war. 7. Use upper and lower case text, because complete MESSAGES IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS HAVE THE EFFECT OF SHOUTING. Reserve using all capital letters solely for EMPHASIS 8. Look to see if information you're about to post has just been posted by someone else. 9. It's a good idea to summarize the question to which you are responding in the first line or two of your message, even if you include a description in the "subject" line of the header. Sometimes comments can be difficult to decipher. 10. Including relevant portions of the original message in your reply is helpful. 11. On the other hand, please do not include the entire original message unless it is important to understand your response. 12. Avoid "Me, too", I agree" and "Yes" messages. Generally speaking, unless it concerns the entire group and is within the group's stated purpose, you should reply only to the author. 13. Don't use obscure "insider" abbreviations or obscure smileys. Use emoticons (also known as "smileys") when trying to convey a tone of voice :-) 14. Don't crosspost: Crossposting to additional listservs is usually seen as improper. 15. Don't post personal messages. When you want to reply to a message posted on DIGITAL-COPYRIGHT first ask yourself whether you want your comment to go to the entire group, or only to the person who wrote the message. Most mailers, unless specifically directed to do otherwise, will send your message back to DIGITAL-COPYRIGHT, and not to the original author of the message. 16. Don't send entire web pages to the discussion group (HTML should not be sent to the list). Post the URLs (web page address) only. 17. Don't blatantly promote your business by posting an advertisement to the discussion group. 18. When forwarding messages, put your comments at the top of the message. 19. Don't overuse acronyms like BTW (by the way) or IMHO (in my humble opinion). Not everyone is experienced with this jargon and they may possibly lose your point. ==================== What does the DIGITAL COPYRIGHT listserv publish and How? Peer-Written Content. Anyone in the Digital Copyright Listserv can share their knowledge, experiences, and views on a given issue. Messages will not be edited but, all messages will be posted to the digest by the list owner. Digital-Copyright is an open, moderated forum. This means that anyone may submit an item to be distributed to the group, but I, as moderator, will preview each before posting it. I will try to let you know if your submission is inappropriate, and give you the opportunity to revise it. I am not perfect, if your message doesn't appear in a few days, please let me know. ==================== I am going on vacation and temporarily do not wish to receive messages. What do I do?
