Director for Development and Outreach, Camille Walker. Please join us in

season.CIP Welcomes Camille Walker new Assistant Director, Development &
OutreachCamille Walker joins the staff of the Center for Intellectual Property
as the new Assistant Director, Development & Outreach. She is an accomplished
and experienced Association Management professional with an extensive
background in advertising and marketing.B  Camille completed a M.S. in
E-Commerce at UMUC and she will 
complete the DMBA program next Fall.B  She is
an active member of Women in Technology and enjoys volunteering with cultural
organizations in the Washington, DC Metro area. The CIP is excited to have
Camille on board and look forward to the coming year. Any comments and/or

presentation proposals for the 2012 CIP Symposium: bAdventures in
Copyright!bB  Submissions are encouraged from practitioners and experts for
sessions lasting 50-90 minutes. They may consist of individual presentations,
case studies, research reports, panel discussions, or other presentation
formats and must fit into one of the three tracks being offered: B  B B B B 1.
Navigating Legal Issues in Copyright B B B B 2. Technology Expeditions in
Copyright B B B B 3.B Professional Development Opportunities & Challenges for
the New IP professionalSubmissions will be reviewed by the program committee.
Successful candidates are required to attend the conference and the CIP
willB award one FREE Symposium registration for each successful submission.

Hire(2-weeks)(For those in both for-profit settings and nonprofit libraries
and educational 
institutions.)B  An examination of work for hire, an
exception from the general rule that authors are the copyright owners work for
hire.B  Discussion covers complex issues of authorship and ownership
surrounding works prepared by employees within the scope of their employment
and works commissioned for use in certain defined situations.Dates:B B January
16-27, 2012Fair Use and Licensing(2-weeks)An examination of fair use and
licensing. Discussion covers various questions: What rights do users of
creative works have to use copyrighted material without permission or
payment?B  How risky is it to use those rights, and how can those risks be
mitigated?B  What's at stake in exercising and defending fair use and other
balancing features of copyright, and how does the balancing concept fit into
the evolution and current reality of copyright law and practice?B  Topics also
include types of licenses, management of licenses (including complex rights

and Trademarks(4-week Short Course)An overview of patents, trademarks, trade
