Resources
The Center for Intellectual Property is seeking to fill the open position of
Assistant Director, Programs and Resources who will be reporting to the
Executive Director. The Assistant Director will be responsible for managing
all CIP educational program development and delivery as well as managing
information resources provided by the CIP.B  The successful candidate will
assist 
the Executive Director develop and deliver certifications in
intellectual property management, recruit instructors, and manage CIP's
certification portfolio growth. The successful candidate is a proven education
program manager that understands course and program development and
expansion.B  The Assistant Director also has strong writing and research
skills to maintain and grow CIP's online resources and research.B  The
successful candidate will be part of a small staff that oversees 
the delivery
of professional certifications and a growing member community of close to 400
individuals and 37 institutional members, representing over 2,500 affiliated
staff, seeking career development opportunities in intellectual property
management.Managing effective development, delivery, maintenance and growth of
CIP online educational programs, including but not limited to 
certification
development, instructor recruitment and retention, wibinar and short course
development and deliveryManaging CIP online resources, including but not
limited to CIP's member portal, general web resources, career development
resources, copyright help desk, Collectanea blog and digital-copyrght list
service, books and research reportsManaging effective development, delivery
and growth of CIP's biennial conference, including but not limited to program
theme, track and speaker development and assisting conference planning
committee in conference developmentCoordinating and managing student resources
and assisting students and participants enrolled in CIP programsAssisting the
Executive Director complete programs and projects funded by foundations,
corporations or partnering institutions for CIP programs and projectsOther
job-related duties as assigned
Required education and experience: Master's degree in related field such as
information management and 
five (5) years of academic program management
experience; at least three (3) of those years must include a portfolio of past
academic program development and delivery success; experience developing,
managing and delivering web-based resources; developing and delivering
research based publications for the general public; developing successful
funding proposals and successful project implementation for foundations,
corporations and other partnering institutions; excellent manager with
outstanding
 project, time and resource management skills; outstanding oral
and written communications evidenced in presentation and publication
portfolio; outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple
tasks with ease.B  Preferred education and experience: Juris Doctorate or
Ph.D; experience with LMS, mobile learning, HTML, WIMBA, People Soft and
Membership Management platforms.B

Open Access and Open Source (2-weeks) An exploration of the creation of open
source products designed to be widely available and the copyright, licensing,
and consumer use issues that have arisen within this environment. Topics
include the growing movement toward open access and concerns related to making
online 
digital documents free of charge and free of most copyright and
licensing restrictions. Dates: January 16-27, 2012
Copyright Work for Hire (2-weeks) POSTPONED UNTIL JULY 2012(For those in both
for-profit settings and nonprofit libraries and educational institutions.) An
examination of work for hire, an exception from the general rule that authors
are the copyright owners
 work for hire. Discussion covers complex issues of
authorship and ownership surrounding works prepared by employees within the
scope of their employment and works commissioned for use in certain defined
situations. Dates: January 16-27, 2012
Fair Use and Licensing (2-weeks) An examination of fair use and licensing.
Discussion covers various questions: What rights do users of creative works
have to use copyrighted material without
 permission or payment? How risky is
it to use those rights, and how can those risks be mitigated? What's at stake
in exercising and defending fair use and other balancing features of
copyright, and how does the balancing concept fit into the evolution and
current reality of copyright law and practice? Topics also include types of
licenses, management of licenses (including complex rights issues), new
standards, and best practices. Dates: June 18-29, 2012
Patents and Trademarks (4-week Short Course) An overview of patents,
trademarks, trade dress, and trade secrets. Topics include elements of
patentability and patentable subject matter. Discussion also covers the
differences between patents and trademarks, the patent prosecution process,
and trademarks and infringement cases. Case studies and case law involving
patent infringement are analyzed. Dates: July 9-August 3, 2012
International Copyright (2-weeks) A study of the influence of international
treaties and agreements (such as the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) on
domestic law. Topics include law issues, public domain, and authorship issues
in an international context. Dates: July 23-August 3, 2012
