[digital-copyright] Music and licenses

We have inquired to multiple representatives at BMI regarding our license, and
the only thing that seems clear is the right to play their music at our events
and other college outlets. Regarding using BMI music on college-produced
videos, one rep said that was fine, another said it wasn't, and a research
specialist wrote that our contract gives us public performance rights for
self-produced works for purposes of education, but in certain cases we may
need synchronization rights from the owners of the copyrights, aka the
publisher.

It's always funny to go to the "source" and still get left without a clear
answer.
