12 semester hourB certificate programB includes leading IP Faculty and covers
a range of topics, concepts and emerging trends essential in the management of
Intellectual Property and the
 complexities of digitization and digital media.
It beginsB September 10-November 16, 2012 with the first of two required
courses; Understanding Intellectual Property Management (6 semester hours).B 
An overview of patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and related concepts with
an emphasis on digital copyright. Discussion covers the law of copyright
ownership, registration, exemptions, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and
liability issues. Consideration of the 
various business models and
technologies used in the commercialization of creative works and the
strategies including technological measures employed to protect creative works
on the Internet. Current trends and issues in intellectual property (IP)
policy, inventory of the IP portfolio, and IP licensing are also addressed.

Speaker: (SUNY) - Buffalo State University - Melaine Kenyon, et. al. Topic: "A
Day in the IP Management Life." TOPIC: "A DAY IN THE IP MANAGEMENT LIFE....."
- An introduction to our Institutional Member: Buffalo State University(SUNY)
through a moderated discussion on issues, challenges and points of pride in
the day-to-day work of IP Intensive positions within the SUNY System.
HOST/SPEAKER BIO: Melaine Kenyon serves as director of instructional
technology for Buffalo State College, the largest comprehensive college in the
State University of New York (SUNY) system. She holds a bachelor of arts
degree in history and a
 master of library science degree from the University
at Buffalo. As IT director, Kenyon provides overall leadership in operations
and coordinates the activities of all units in the Instructional Resources
Department: classroom technology support, instructional design, the college's
learning management system, video production, photography, graphic design, and
television engineering services. She provides strategic leadership for the
development and integration of instructional technology into classrooms and
other learning spaces, and she is directly involved in the planning and design
of classroom media technologies for academic environments under renovation.
She also serves as the primary contact for instructional technology media
purchases and 
consultation. Kenyon serves as the college's copyright
consultant and is currently a member of the SUNY-wide Intellectual Property
Task Group, charged with leading the effort to educate faculty, staff, and
students about copyright. She also chairs a campus task force for Buffalo
State's copyright work group. Kenyon completed the professional certification
program in Copyright Management and Leadership Level I: Foundations and Level
II: Advanced Topics from the Center for Intellectual 
Property at the
University of Maryland University College.

Ilene FrankTopic: The MOOC Model and IP Management:
 Challenges, Issues and
Opportunities in the Changing Educational Models. As the Massive Open Online
Classroom evolves and grows -this session focuses on the growing questions,
challenges and issues of the MOOC Model - what it means in terms of IP
Management, Education, Academic Value and the future of the academic process.
This is intended to be an open discussion of the opportunities and challenges
MOOCs present for the academic community, students and faculty. Bring your
questions, comments and lessons learned to share. Host/Speaker Bio:     B 
Ilene Frank. Ilene retired from the University of South Florida Tampa Library
in 2009. Where her duties included: reference and instruction as well as
collection development for the School of Architecture and Community Design.
Over the years collection development assignments included fine arts and
various liberal arts departments. She helped implement virtual reference
service via email, chat. Participated in recent Infoquest text message
reference service pilot project . She is currently teaching as an adjunct for
UMUC's Masters in Distance Education certificate 
program and teaching
sections of mandatory 1 credit courses on use of library and internet
resources. In addition from June, 2010 to date she has served as the Volunteer
Director of Library Service for University of the People . Ilene received her
BSD from the University of Michigan, School of Architecture and Design, MLS
from University of Michigan, School of Library and Information Science and her
MFA from the University of South Florida, School of Fine Arts. For fun she
enjoys exploring the 
use of technology to support teaching and learning and
in particular the use of virtual worlds for education - mainly Second Life.
