The custom sound chip doesn't even put out analog audio like a pokey does, and the 2600 doesn't even have the analog line in on the cart slot like the 7800 did, at least from what I hear. If my understanding is correct, the P][ sound chip just generates chains of numbers for a given input parameter corresponding to a note.
