Why not use a player instead of a missile, then you have 8-bits to work
with?  Then just redefine the shape at that point.

Some changes may be needed just to bring the game up to date, realizing
how gamers roll scores.

If you want to check out SI, I would suggest you take a look at MAME.  As
ambivalent I am about emulation, that's one context in which it's
justified.

Same deal with Lunar Rescue.
