I think the answer is yes to the first, and a sorrowful no to the second... First, HDTV was supposed to be the new standard, and worldwide it was hoped. But while America saw fighting between two standards, Japan released a version that wasn't compatible with either. Luckily, it was analog and didn't do very well (unless it recovered miraculously in the last decade or so), paving the way for the American standard (I THINK they finally settled on just one) to be THE standard. The problem is, yeah, now digital TV is coming about, and it may or may not be the same thing as HDTV... Look at Sun's page for JavaTV, for instance. People keep talking about a TV/net convergence, but of course there's no guarantee that anything will actually CONVERGE. What I wonder is if we'll HAVE to keep old TVs aroudn if we want to keep playing our old games without having to rely on emulation. -- //*================================================================++ || Russ Perry Jr 2175 S Tonne Dr #105 Arlington Hts IL 60005 || || 847-952-9729 slapdash@xxxxxxxxxxxx VIDEOGAME COLLECTOR! || ++================================================================*// -- Archives (includes files) at http://www.biglist.com/lists/stella/archives/ Unsub & more at http://www.biglist.com/lists/stella/
