Never mind, I got it.
Select switch detecting is pretty intuitive.
And I can EOR #%11111111
for an effect boolean toggler.
I switched so that I only detect when the select button
is released, I don't go crazy just 'cause it's down.
I was trying something similar before but I think I
got my variables recording the previous state wrong.
