Hi Chris,

The mailing list has changed from nemo-user-group to virtools-user-group
Can you repost your message to :
virtools-user-group@lists.theswapmeet.com ?

Tks

Also, remember that the textures you use need to be loaded to the graphics
card memory --> if you reach that memory limit, then the textures are
swapped from the RAM, which dramatically reduces the rendering performance.
So make sure that you avoid overflows as much as possible.

Remember, a 256x256x32bit texture takes 256KB in the texture memory. Do the
math, considering your target platform.

I have the following CMO.

Database
583 objects
82 textures
8 sprites
237 behaviours

On screen
13315 polys on 401 objects

I can render this on different machines ranging from a P120 with 48MB RAM
(PCI Voodoo on Windows 98) up to a PIII 550 with 256MB RAM (AGP TNT2 32MB on
Windows 2000). Francois Dujardin technique works very well. Cutting geometry
in different modules and therefore reducing the size of bounding boxes did
improve the frame rate a lot. Also reducing camera clipping does a lot for
rendering speed.

I've managed to maintain a minimum frame rate of 17fps on the low end
machine using the exact same geometry.
(Check the tutorial on Francois's page about cutting up geometry in smaller
parts)
Hope this helps.

Marc.
