The guys from Virtools have made a great HTML tag :-)) and you want you do not want to use it ??? :-)))
Why do you want to make this so complicated ?? Off course the guy will want to install the plug in to see your 3d content !!!!.... :-))
 
So .. enough with stupid jokes : the basic idea is to take a flash sniffer (ie on www.webmonkey.com) and replace the flash CLSID and object creation code by the Virtools web player ones.

How can I detect if a user has the Virtools web player installed on his browser? At the moment, it goes and download the component automatically, but it brings up a black window while waiting. I'd like to popup a window asking the user if he wants to download the player or not and display an alternate bitmap instead of the Virtools player client area. A bit like a flash sniffer.
