Christian,
It is the fate of beta-testers to have ideas about how the app should be...
It is also the fate of beta-testers to see bugs everywhere, that seem never
to be corrected, ending in the beta-tester believe that his bug reports have
not been taken into account.
I have had the same remarks as you, directed to another company/software, a
few years ago. The Engineering Manager told me : "Look, you seem to have
lots of good ideas about how things should be. With such brilliant thoughts,
why don't you go and run your own software company ? " That was good
teaching ;)
I also think you should consider the computer environment. I have not seen
one app in years that was 100% bug-free, with a perfect documentation and
support. Take Maya, for instance. It costs lots of bucks, really, but you
can still find some bugs, the doc is far from excellent (with typos) and the
support frequently ends up with a mere "oh yes, that's a known issue - we're
working on it for the next version". And they have 250 coders.
The perfect app does not exist (one exception though: WordPad). And yes,
Rhino, that has the best solution : the permanent beta version.
Well, Virtools is probably not the best app in the world, but I really
believe it is more of a good app that what you describe. But they have
provided no magic wand.
Cheers
Gil
