Hello,
Well VR Head mounted displays (HMD) are "just" display systems : they
support VGA inputs that can be plugged directly on your graphic card,
whatever application is running. The "compatibility" only concerns
resolution and frequency of the input video signal.
To choose correctly your HMD, and to know what interface is to be done
with Virtools, you have to know : 
	- what image accuracy you need (HMD resolution).
	- what kind of immersion you need (HMD wide field of view).
	- Do you need to track the user's head orientation ? In that
case tracking system would be involved to update your camera
orientation.
	- Do you want mono or stereoscopic display ? (stereo = one
camera/display per eye)
	- Do you need to see through your HMD ? (for augmented reality
app for instance)
(some of the HMDs key features are : resolution, wide field of view,
stereo support and see-through support).
