the semantics of { } are exactly the same as semantics of
<xsl:value-of select=
so
<xsl:element name="tr">
<xsl:attribute name="bgcolor">
<xsl:value-of
select="/Portal:Page/Portal:Preferences/Portal:trimColor"/>
</xsl:attribute>
...
</xsl:element>
is equivalent to
<tr bgcolor="{/Portal:Page/Portal:Preferences/Portal:trimColor}">
...
</tr>
but takes more typing.
