CONVERTING XML TO HTML USING XSL

I have:
1) XML4J 3.x (IBM)
2) LOTUS XSL (IBM)

When I input an xml document and associate it with an xsl document the
output I get is just the xsl by it self.  I am using <xsl:template
match="/">, <xsl:apply-templates/>, and <xsl:value-of select="LAST_NAME"/>
tags but maybe I'm using them wrong.  Can someone help me get this thing
transforming.
