Q: why the browser does not format a page if i include a xsl file as xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl ="local path" or "local ip address" and my own xsl A: Because the "xsl" prefix is just a bridge to the real identifier. What *would* work is to declare <style:stylesheet xmlns:style="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0"> and then have all your stylesheet elements prefixed with style: <style:output method="xml"/> <style:template match="/"> <style:value-of select="foo"/> and so on. That's the inverse of what you proposed. The XSLT processor obeys instructions that are associated with the namespace "http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" and the prefix is the bridge between elements and the URI. As shown above, the specific prefix "xsl" has no special significance other than being easier to understand because it's what the spec uses. (See section 2.1, paragraph 4, where they disclaim magical powers for "xsl" as a prefix.) .................David Marston XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
