The content of one node includes that of it's children, therefore when using
<xsl:value-of select="."/>
all children's values are selected too...
1) use <xsl:value-of select="text()"/>
2) or do write just:
<xsl:template match = "library | book | chapter">
<BR/>
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</xsl:template>
this applys default rules and next matching templates are selected.
