For me, it's a bug... The XPath spec says ! > 4.1 Node Set Functions > > Function: number last() > > The last function returns a number equal to the context size > from the expression evaluation context. and also gives the following examples : > para[last()] selects the last para child of the context node Note that this doesn't seem to be related to the usage of the last() function and that <xsl:template match="/nodes/node[3]"> <xsl:value-of select="."/> </xsl:template> gives exactly the same result.
