Java and Result-tree fragments

So... I know language extensions are unique to each XSL processor,
but does anyone know generally...  how one can pass a result-tree
fragment to a Java method.  Currently, I can only figure out how
to pass a node-set to a Java method... but the node-set only has the
top-level node when really I want the entire tree, so I can parse it
appropriately in the Java method.  I'm using Lotus XSL 1.0 processor.
Any ideas?  Thanks!
