<xsl:when test="name(parent::node()) = 'parent1'"> I think the poster said child processing was the same, but if not better to do <xsl:when test="parent::parent1"> than the above as a) it's quicker (to write and to execute) and b) it works correctly in the presence of namespaces, which expressions involving name() tend not to do.
