netscape 4.x or 6.x ?

Either way, if the meta element is specifying utf-8 it's supposed to
switch to that on its own, but sometimes you need to give it a kick
by switching the default encoding  (in er edit preferences, somewhere:-)
to utf-8 or unicode.
