Just to note that Tibco Extensibility's XML Transform editor for XSL-T always uses xsl:element & xsl:attribute, and converts stylesheets into this form when it loads them.  I mention this because sometimes the most useful form for students to see is the one their tool is going to generate (and only on a bad day should "vi" be your editor for XSL-T ...)
