Hi Dan, > In other words, I'm very much in favour of the conformance level > "XSLT 2.0-no-schema-types" (XSLTNST..?). I'm not so much worried > about an implementation not handling XSLT 2 fast enough - I'm > worried about me not handling XSLT 2 at all. And I wouldn't feel bad > if the static typing stuff was dropped altogether. I understand your concern. I'm pretty familiar with XML Schema now, but I'm not relishing the prospect of having to get my head around the XQuery Semantics and the XPath/XQuery regulations about how different types are cast to each other -- which casts are possible and which aren't, what kind of durations and date/times I can compare with each other and what it'll mean when I do, and so on -- and the names of all those new functions. All that I can recommend is that you (and others) write to the comments list (public-qt-comments@xxxxxx) expressing your concerns and preferably giving real examples that demonstrate why it's a concern and recommending changes that would meet your requirements. The WGs can't be blamed for producing bad specs if no one points out why they're bad. And the earlier that the comments are made, the easier it will be for the WGs to change their minds.
