[xsl] Using Variable in Template Matching....

Hi,
   I have a Requirement in which i have to do an apply-template 
for a parameter.I am doing this since i am writing a Generic 
XSL.

Can i do
  <xsl:apply-templates match="$param"/>

and....

   <xsl:template match="$param"/>
