Any XPath expression is evaluated in the context of the current document, i.e. the document you read using univ-xml[1]. Try the other option, that is, before the first for-each say: <xsl:variable name="univ2" select="univ-xml[2]"/> then <xsl:for-each select="document($univ2])/university-records/univ-ids/univ"> <!-- TO ITERATE THROUGH THE 2nd XML --> Regards, Trevor Nash -- Traditional training & distance learning, Consultancy by email Melvaig Software Engineering Limited voice: +44 (0) 1445 771 271 email: tcn@xxxxxxxxxxxxx XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
