[xsl] Attribute as a Variable

 I dont know the attribute name beforehand but is avaiable as a variable $currAttr.

I tried something like this 
<xsl:value-of select="$currNode/attribute[$currAttr]"/>
but does not work.

What is the right way to do this in XSL.
