This solution only works if you are not interrupting the flow with 
non-empty blocks that span the columns unless you make sure those blocks 
somehow obscure the rules of the table in the static content (e.g., by 
setting a background color or something). This may also require jigging 
the z-index, which not all implementations support. Trial and error may 
be required.
