Complementing Robert's answer, some debugging techniques:
 <p><xsl:value-of select="@filename"/></p>
tells you whether you selected the expected filename
 <p><xsl:value-of select="count(document(@filename))"/></p>
tells you whether the file was found (=1) or not (=0)
 <p><xsl:value-of select="name(document(@filename)/*)"/></p>
tells you what document element was in the file.
Etc.
