did not actually worked. So I had to split into two
templates:
<xsl:template match="*">
  <td>
    <xsl:value-of select="normalize-space(text())"/>
  </td>
</xsl:template>
and
<xsl:template match="@*">
  <td>
    <xsl:value-of select="normalize-space(text())"/>
  </td>
</xsl:template>
Sorry about the confusion. It's quite a complex
stylesheet I have attempted, having limited experience
with XSLT. I still have a long journey ahead.
