Vertices and Sides

All shapes are made up of lines. These lines are called **sides.**

A **vertex **is the place where two sides meet, like a corner.Ā

Tip: When there are more than 1 vertex, we say "vertices".

Different shapes have different numbers of sides and vertices!

A **triangle** has 3 sides:

How many vertices does a triangle have?Ā

It has 3 vertices.

A **square **has 4 sides and 4 vertices.Ā

A **rectangle **also has 4 sides and 4 vertices.Ā

You can count them to check:

All 4-sided shapes (*Quadrilaterals)* have 4 vertices.

For 2D shapes, the number of sides will always equal the number of vertices.

Great job learning about vertices and shapes. Try the practice questions next.
