I don't agree with Linus. He ignores several things:
- By his method, you don't have the element's type, so it makes it less
readible, especially 
for big structures.
- Linus ignores the option of attributes.
By combining the tree structure with both the element type and the
attributes, XML is capable
of describing an object oriented model.

Secondly, one could write an XML viewer/editor having the "naked" view mode
of Linus,
without the need to change or replace the XML language.
