Still something is going wrong . 

<xsl:template match="col">
	   <!-- avoids Result Tree Fragments -->
	   <xsl:param name="rownumber" select="0"/>
	   <xsl:param name="colnumber" select="0"/>
	   <gmr:Cell ValueType="60" Col="{$colnumber}" Row="{$rownumber}">  
	   		<xsl:if test="string-length(col)>0">		  
		       <xsl:apply-templates select="." mode="value"/>
		    </xsl:if> 		  
	   </gmr:Cell>
	</xsl:template>

When I applied the if condition all the cells in excel now contain the value 
in row0 col0. Am I missing something here.
