If you have an expression of the form
//x[@y=$v]
then you can often improve performance by declaring a key
xsl:key name="k" match="x" use="@y"
and changing the expression to
key('k', $v)
But you won't get improved performance, or correct results, by shoving in
calls to key() where they don't make sense.
