hi,
  One way could be:

  <xsl:template match="fruit">
   <xsl:variable name="x">
   	<xsl:value-of select="."/>
   </xsl:variable>
   <xsl:if test="$x!=''">
   	<!--DO SOMETHING-->
   </xsl:if>
  </xsl:template>

Regards
Manpreet

I can check if a nodes exists or not in XSL not sure how to check if it has
any data.

<xsl:if test="mygarden/fruits='true'">
