Try this for your output statement:

      method="xml"
      media-type="text/html"
      doctype-public="-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
      doctype-system="DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"
      cdata-section-elements="script style"
      encoding="utf-8"/>
