media-type has no effect (I would guess) if you are generating result _files_ (and in any case it doesn't affect the way the result is serialised) It just affects the media type that is used if the result is sent via some api (eg returned as a result of an http request) rather than stored on the file system. The method attribute has an effect on elements in that certain html elements get special treatment in html method, and all elements are dropped in text method. The method attribute affects character data in that &-escaping will be used for characters not in the encoding in html or xml method, but unencoded characters will generate an error in text output.
