Nice. I tend to avoid match patterns like this probably just out of habit but it's better advice then mine was. Only one question: shouldn't it be the ancestor axis and not preceding-sibing or am I misreading the predicates? ie something like text()[ancestor::node()[1][self::indent1 or self::paragraph] since the text node will be contained by the indent or the paragraph?
