8.0.7002.0 (according to the version properties report of msxml.dll in my c:\windows\system32 directory)

Same version here! But I am using a C++ wrapper and --looking up code-- it does indeed set some defaults explicitly. A bit old wrapper by now, but I am using it for testing purposes only. I will keep these artifact of it in mind.
