sorry you lost me, go back to first principles. All the talk of variables is probably just a distraction (people coming from other languages often expect to use variables when none are needed). Post a complete (small) xml input and a complete (small) required output, then someone (maybe me, but I'm about to go home) will no doubt suggest some code that gets from one to the other. having said that, perhaps you just want the URL from the VNDR_URL that has the last EFFDT That would be <xsl:template match="VNDR_LOC_SCROL"> <xsl:for-each select="VENDOR_LOC"> <xsl:sort select="VNDR_URL/EFFDT"/> <xsl:if test="position()=last()"> <HOMEPAGE><xsl:value-of select="VNDR_URL/URL" /></HOMEPAGE> </xsl:if> </xsl:for-each> </xsl:template> Or something...
