Yeah, this is a nasty problem.

Maybe you'd be aided by developing using a highly-conformant 
processor that gives good error messages (like Saxon :-), and only 
once code is thoroughly debugged there to test it in FF and IE both. 
This helps "triangulate" as well as giving your processes more 
transparency in the development phase. (Oh you're already doing that?)

Certainly, though we may be projecting a bit into their intentions. 
Like any large company facing competing strategic requirements, the 
vendor seems to lurch from year to year like a beast with many heads.
