Subject: [xsl] <quote>XSL is NOT easy</quote> From: Gannon Dick <gannon_dick@xxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2007 14:14:32 -0700 (PDT) |
It has been a while since I heard this comment, Karl. Then, the syntax differences between XML and HTML were still a source of grumbling amongst the lazy. As in "XML is just HTML for the anal retentive, there is no good reason to close tags and quote attributes". The other side of the comment goes like this: Professionalism demands the smallest annotated code for the given result. So, HTML files, written from scratch, are much better than MS WORD files. Microsoft programmers obviously are not "professional", especially the ones who make a whole lot more money than you do. You should understand that these arguments are both the same non sequitur, although sitting in meetings appealing to "Professionalism" sounds better than appeals to entrenched laziness. Both arguments miss the point, spectacularly. (XML + XSL) is faster than (HTML from scratch) (XML + XSL) is smaller than (MS WORD) --Gannon ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for a deal?
