Which of course is a pointer rather than a deep copy (which was my other idea). Excellent.

Thanks again.

This doesn't work because when I attempt to apply-templates
to /Root/Body, the context appears to be limited to the
variable - how can I get back to the document?

Have a global variable pointing to the principal source document

<xsl:variable name="root" select="/"/>

so you can always refer to it.
