Sounds like a country yokel in a remote Yorkshire village saying you'd be
hard pressed to find anyone, even in Sheffield, who has ever heard of
London, let alone been there.

On the other hand, one might fairly have said, seven or even five years ago, "you'd be hard pressed to find many people, even in the web development community, that either is aware of, or uses, XML". Even if true, the argument wouldn't actually make any claim that ought to be considered relevant.


Another analogy might be if they were entering the power tool business, and claimed that no one actually used a masonry drill bit, on the basis of polling people who, if they drill holes at all, still do it by hand.

That is, they'd get much better information if they asked those with the relevant experience, not just "many people".
