A while back I posted the XSLT 2.0 code necessary to create a UUID, 
close enough to the thoughts behind a UUID  to be reasonably globally 
unique (but without the network interface number etc). The idea was to 
create an XSLT-only and portable solution. It's a simple function that 
however often you call it, even within one run, without using extension 
functions, always produces a unique string.

though as almost always, the layout/indentation is broken...
