the white soace is coming from, for example > = < ie the soace you used for indenting. to stop this, use xsl:text so that indentation space is just in text nodes that are all white, thn it will be ignored. so ... <xsl:text> = </xsl:text> Also, if you are getting <formatting:ATTRIBUTEVALUE> "value" </formatting:ATTRIBUTEVALUE> then you must have undent="yes" specified on xsl:output, remove this or set it back to the defualt value of no.
