I thank you all for your patience in any case, it was most instructive. It is good to find that XSL has such great defenders. :-) And I was a little unreasonable.

I do wonder, for my own sake in the design of my projects, how I am to structure multiple documents and document extensions. This discussion has shown me that a meta structure may be necessary - I shall have to experiment a little.

This list is fine as place to find out whether other users agree with you or
whether you've got the wrong end of the stick; but the place to provide
feedback on W3C language specifications is the address given in the status
section of the relevant Recommendation.
